The Regional Assistance Mission to the Solomon Islands (RAMSI) was one of the largest aid programs that Australia has been involved in. At over $2 billion, it was funded mostly by the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and AusAID between 2003-2013. It was implemented with Pacific island nations such as New Zealand, PNG, Fiji, Tonga, Samoa and Vanuatu through the Pacific Islands Forum.
Fast forward to 2022, and China has signed a security agreement with the Solomon Islands. How did this happen? What happened to the special friendship that Australia and the Solomons used to have? Find out more about the history of Australia’s close relationship with the Solomons in this illuminating feature length documentary. Key participants in the film include the Former Prime Minister of Australia John Howard, Nick Warner the current Director-General of the Australian Office of National Intelligence, the Former Prime Minister of the Solomons, Sir Alan Kemakeza, and former PM Gordon Darcy Lilo. These leaders are joined with officials, commentators, diplomats and aid workers from both sides.
