Kathleen Syme Centre Engagement Program

The Kathleen Syme Centre is a first community-led design and construct project. The first community hub of its kind in Carlton. In order to get the best outcome for the site, the City of Melbourne developed an engagement program with the community. This program integrated the identified needs for Carlton with the community’s aspirations for the Kathleen Syme Centre.

The engagement program resulted in a Council resolution on the 8th of May 2012. The Council resolved to build ‘a community and cultural facility integrating full service library information and resources, library training and learning, shared non-exclusive, space for community service provision (including youth services) and social activities and programs’.
